Steam Trap Surveys
A Steam Trap Survey is a process in which an on-site audit of your steam traps is conducted, with the overall purpose being to determine which traps are faulty, resulting in both steam and monetary loss.
Keystone Steam Supplies is able to conduct on-site steam trap surveys, ensuring you aren’t throwing away valuable dollars on energy on broken steam traps.
How does it work?
Hire Keystone to conduct a steam trap survey at your facility. This saves you the time and resources of testing your own traps. We will also provide a fully detailed report at the end, giving you cost and savings estimations in a fully presentable format.
Note that we are located in Mississauga, Ontario. If you are too far outside of the GTA we may not be able to help. However, feel free to contact us anyway. Special accomodations can always be considered.
We will provide a quote for you, based on the estimated number of steam traps you have in your facility, plus any other relevant details.
Send us your purchase order for the survey. Due to the size and scope of these projects, it will likely be necessary to setup an account with Keystone first.
Coordinate with us to establish when we can send someone to conduct the steam trap survey at your location. You will also probably need to have someone available to stay with our representative for the duration of the survey to act as a guide. After all, you know your facility best. Depending on the size of you facility, the ease of access, and the number of steam traps, the survey can take anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of weeks.
Once the physical portion of the steam trap survey has been completed all you need to do is wait for the final report. This typically takes between 2-4 weeks to create as there is usually a lot of data for us to review. We may also need to get in touch during this time to ask some questions and possibly come back for a day to clear up any questions we may have. So please make sure we can get in touch with you during this time.
Do you still have questions? Are you looking for pricing information or to place an order?
Do you have questions about steam trap leak detection?
The short answer is “it depends.” Typically, we only conduct surveys within reasonable driving distance of the GTA. However, it is not impossible for us to travel farther.
If you wish to hire Keystone to conduct a steam trap survey and are outside of the GTA we can still provide a quote. But we would now have to include things like overnight accommodations, food and transportation costs for our representatives.
The final report may vary from project to project, but typically the final report ranges from 10 to 15 pages and contains information on the following sections:
- Survey objectives
- Survey details
- Identified traps, Traps tested, meter readings, etc.
- Information on survey sheets
- Includes an appendix on how to read and understand the information in the survey (in plain English)
- Steam loss data
- Repairs and replacements
- Contains suggestions for new and repairable traps with cost calculations
- Notes on repair kits
- Steam loss calculations
- Notes, observations and discrepancies
A leaking steam trap can…
- Waste valuable heating $$$
- Destroy condensate pumps
- Create hot and cold spots within a heating space
- Cause production inefficiency of process equipment
- Produce destructive water hammer
- Lead to undue wear on, and premature failure of, other traps
