Lubricants and Sealants
- Lubricants prevent components from sticking, allowing for easier repairs down the line
- Acts as an additional soft seal beyond existing gaskets and o-rings
- Reduces friction between moving components, keeping things going for longer
Lubricants and Sealants are often used on gaskets and o-rings to prevent sticking to metal surfaces. They make assembly and disassembly easier by reducing friction on pipe joints, fasteners, flanges, and other components, and can also help reduce surface corrosion over the service lifespan.

Do you have questions about Molykote Lubricant?
What are the most common lubricants that get requested?
By far, the most common lubricant/sealant we get asked about is silicone-based grease, like Molykote Compound 111, which has great temperature resistance and is suitable for many steam-related applications
What other kinds of lubricants and sealants are out there?
There are many kinds out there, but for high temperature applications, you might run into graphite, PTFE (Teflon) or metal-based lubricants.
What kind of information is needed to obtain a quote?
- If you are looking for something in particular – what is it?
- What are you trying to do with this lubricant/sealant? (ie. what is the general application?)
- What kind of temperatures/pressures are you working with?
- What is the flow medium (steam, water, air, gas, etc.) and what materials are being sealed?
